How is LCWRA back pay calculated?

LCWRA back pay is calculated from the first assessment period after the three-month relevant period ends, up to the assessment period before your decision was made. The calculation uses the LCWRA rate that applies to each assessment period based on annual uprating dates.

How long is the waiting period?

The standard waiting period (relevant period) is three months from the date you first provided medical evidence to DWP. Exceptions apply for terminal illness and previous LCWRA awards, where the waiting period may be waived.

Why do amounts differ across years?

LCWRA rates are uprated annually, usually in April. The rate that applies to each assessment period depends on when that assessment period starts, so back pay spanning multiple years will use different rates.
