Frequently Asked Questions
What is the WETFLAG calculator used for?
The calculator is a rapid clinical aid for paediatric resuscitation in UK practice, summarising key parameters (Weight, Energy, Tube, Fluids, Lorazepam, Adrenaline, Glucose). It complements local guidelines and senior clinical judgment; it does not replace them.
Does this tool give medical advice?
No. It is an educational/clinical aid only. Always verify doses and decisions with your local policy, drug charts, and senior clinician.
Which age range is supported?
The tool is intended for infants and children approximately 0–12 years, aligning with typical APLS age-bands. Neonatal resuscitation follows separate guidance; use local neonatal protocols.
How is weight estimated if I don't enter it?
If weight is not provided, the calculator estimates weight using updated APLS age-banded formulae (1–12 months, 1–5 years, 6–12 years). If you know the actual weight, enter it for greater accuracy.
Why are joules, volumes, and lengths rounded?
Values are rounded to clinically practical figures (e.g., integers for joules, one decimal place for volumes/lengths) to reduce cognitive load. See the "How we calculate" references in the tool.
Are cuffed or uncuffed tube sizes recommended?
The tube size displayed uses a standard formula. Cuffed tubes may be approximately 0.5 mm smaller than uncuffed. Follow your local airway guidance and equipment availability.
Which guidelines does this align with?
It references UK practice, including Resuscitation Council UK paediatric guidance and APLS resources. Always consult your local and most recent policies.
Why are units only metric (kg, J, mL)?
Metric units align with UK clinical standards and reduce conversion errors during emergencies.
Does this tool collect personal data?
The calculator performs on-page computations. It does not send data off-site. Any optional usage counts (if enabled) are stored locally on your device.
Can I print or share results?
Yes. Use the built-in Print and Share options (when available on your device/browser). On mobile, Big Display mode improves readability in critical settings.
